Manual network selection only works when you are overseas and your phone is activated for international roaming. You don't even have to do this sometimes when your phone is set to search for networks automatically but if that did not work on your Apple iPhone 5S, please follow the steps below.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Carrier.
- Tap on the switch next to Automatic if its turned on
- Your phone will search for available networks. It might take a few minutes for the result to show on the screen.
- Once you have the list of available networks, tap on the one you want to connect to.
- It will then show you if you have access to their network or not.
- If that doesn't work, you will need to use another phone to call your own service provider.
