- Tap on the Apps.
- Tap on the Messaging.
- Tap on the Menu key.
- Tap on the Settings.
- Tap on the box beside the Notifications to put a check and activate.
- Tap Select ringtone.
- Tap on different message tones to listen to them.
- Tap OK once you've found a message tone you desire
- Press on the Home button to return to go back to the home screen.

thank you for open this thread man, my problem : is there any way for me to change the tone. honestly i don't like default sms tone provided by samsung. i would like to choose my favorite tone just like my old Nokia can do.
Yes. Copy the tone that you want to set in Notifications folder on your S3 mobile. Then it should be available in list of available message tones and you can select it
your notification should be ON. Then incoming messages will make a sound.
My notification is on and still no sound . What else can I do x

I had already changed the tone for Emails etc, but couldn't figure out the text message tone but to be honest I had never looked in the message settings <idiot.
Anyway thanks I now have the tone I wanted.
Please tell me how to do this. Where is the noticifactions button? Thank YOU!
